illustration friday:  lost?

FINALLY! took me bloody long enough. started this entry on "lost", and finished on "remote"...soooo...i guess she'll be LOST in a REMOTE location ! hardy har ;D after all, i did move her around the world a bit when i was painting her...she transformed from one ethnicity to another as i painted.

did this for one of my wee neices...hope she'll like it. it's about two foot by three foot, still haven't figured out how to get it to her! i guess her dad'll have to make a drive down for a medical conference or something! thing's have been too busy to make decent progress with this painting or any other IF inspired work, but won't bore you with the details. just glad to be back at it!

Oh my!!! Why aren't there more than 2 eprops I can give? LOVE the texture, the colour contrasts, the shadings, I could go on and use all the definitions from an art encylopedia! This is a wonderful painting Kerry and VERY much worth the wait! I know how difficult it is for you to paint on a large scale also! SUPERB!

thanks anon! you're right about juggling the canvas, especially with muscle spasms. then the doctor recommended i drink a couple beer to quell them...but then i don't get much painting done that way either! hee hee... quite the conundrum!

I love this illo. The yellow frames her beautifully. It looks lush and vibrant and I need that today because it has been raining for 3 days staight. Thanks for the bright imaginative lift out of this dreary weather. Cheers!

Huh Kerry you DID it again!!! Made me smile bright because it's so wonderful! I laughed when I read that your little girl had changed ethnicity several times while you were painting. I know it... sometimes it feels better... hehe!!  Hugs, Anja

This picture in its full size must be impressive. First I noticed the girl and her look of innoence, then the bright flowers and just at the end I noticed the sky and how interesting it was with it looks like layers of color. The other comment is true it does remind one of Diego Rivera.

it's incredibly flattering to have one's amateur work reminding people of diego rivera...he's one of my favorites. you're right rivkahh...the sky is layered on texturally with a palatte knife, i'm happy with how it turned out. (plus i'm a huge fan of goopy playtime and acrylic mediums, as anon knows all too well!) i have another large canvas to start next for my other neice...their mother said they have many large bare walls so i took that as a challenge, and bought the largest canvasses that will fit in my trunk and i could reach my arms around! so could be another few weeks before i post to IF again, depending on how my other projects go:D

Oh gosh, this is so wonderful. I just love the blue background with the yellow flowers, and like "rowant" said it does remind me of all the things I love most about Mexican paintings, the vibrant colors, the emphasis on the person, and the beauty of the person and nature. This is just absolutely wonderful.

hi giao! actually, this painting was commissioned so i'll get a couple bucks for it, and will be making prints before delivery cuz some others who have seen it wanted one for their munchkin's room. i'm also having some cards from other paintings being made up for sale at a local art show...we'll see how they do...around here people usually prefer more traditional stuff...pastoral scenes and the like which i'm not big on. generally i paint for my own art therapy...putting my brain on canvas is soothing to the nerves :D

The archetypal lost child!  I love your use of underpainted colour in this - it really glows.  Also, having her down at the level of the daffodils.  There's something of Gaugin about the colours - nice!

I love that she's well traveled and diversified! *G* You finally left her lost in a beautiful location, though. That was friendly of you. Seriously, this is beautiful and I'm sure your niece will love it!
